Postal service types
LETTER
is a mail item containing a written communication in a closed envelope without a value noted, a well as any other item which in regard of its size and weight meets the appropriate requirements, although it does not contain written communication.
Letter must be closed so that its content is protected from possible damage during the delivery, and that the content cannot be taken out or damaged without visible traces.
Weight can be up to 2 kg.

Size:
  • rectangular form - the sum of the length, width and height cannot exceed 900 mm, provided that the largest of the three values cannot exceed 600 mm.
  • cylinder form - the sum of the length and double diameter can be up to 1040 mm, provided that the length can be up to 900 mm and that the sum of the length and double diameter cannot be less than 170 mm, and that the length of a letter cannot be less than 100 mm.
The minimum size of the address side of the letter cannot be less than 90 x 140 mm.

Standard letter is a letter in a closed envelope of rectangular form, its length no less than its width multiplied by 1.4, which corresponds to the following:



POSTCARD
Postcard is a mail item with open written communication, made of cardboard or sufficiently firm paper in rectangular form. Postcard must not have protruding elements or elevations.

Size of postcards in domestic communication:
  • max. 120 x 235 mm, min. 90 x 140 mm, with tolerance of up to 2 mm;
  • max. 105 x 150 mm postcard, with tolerance of up to 2 mm, provided that it is not folded, this considered a standard postcard.
A postcard which does not meet the above mentioned requirements or exceeds the size of 120 x 235 mm, is considered a non-standard postcard.

Size of postcards in international communication:
  • postcard may be 90 x 140 mm to 105 x 148 mm, with tolerance of up to 2 mm , provided that the length must be at least equal to the width multiplied by 1.4. Such postcard is considered standard, provided that it is not folded or perforated.
  • standard postcards are also picture postcards and greeting cards from 90 x 140 mm to 120 x 235 mm, provided that they are not folded or perforated.

Postcards - detailed information
A postcard (in national and international terms) which does not meet the above mentioned requirements or exceeds the size of 120 x 235 mm, but which does not exceed the maximum size prescribed for a letter, is considered a non-standard letter that does not have to be in an envelope.

Postcards are submitted open and without envelope, and can be folded only in the address part which in such case must be glued. All postcard types are considered postcards if they meet the requirements for postcards.


PRINTED MATTER
Printed matter is an open item containing books, newspapers, magazines (basic printed matter), as well as printed catalogues, brochures, prospects, advertisements, price lists, flight schedules, directories, plaques, calendars, journals, statistical reports, and alike printed materials (other printed matter).

Book is a non-periodical printed publication the leaves of which must be bound together. The title page must contain: the title, first and last names of the author, place and year of publication and the publisher.

Newspaper is a printed publication appearing daily or periodically, with no cover and unbound.

Magazines are printed publications with covers and bound leaves appearing periodically.

Printed matter can weigh up to 2 kg. Printed matter containing a book can weigh up to 5 kg. If newspapers and magazines are submitted by an authorized publisher, distributor or agency, the newspaper or magazine bundle may weigh up to 10 kg, a newspaper or magazine bag can weigh up to 30 kg.

Printed matter size must be identical to the letter size. Individually addresses printed matter cannot exceed 300 mm for any dimension. A bundle of printed matter cannot exceed 400 mm for any dimension.

In the top left corner of the address side of a printed matter the sender is to put a mark "TISKANICA" in national, or "IMPRIME" in international. traffic. In international traffic it is permissible to open sealed printed matter to check their content.


CECOGRAM
Cecogram is an open item containing a letter written in the Braille alphabet for the blind, a cliche with cecographic signs and sound recordings or special paper for the blind, provided it is submitted or to be received by an institution for the blind.
Cecogram can weigh up to 7 kg, with the same size as a letter. In top right corner of the address side the sender is to put a mark "SEKOGRAM" in the national traffic and "CECOGRAMME" in the international traffic.



PARCEL

Parcel is a closed postal item with noted value, which can contain goods, money, written communication and other items.
The value of the content of a parcel must be marked in kunas in the bottom left corner of the address side, while in the international traffic parcel value must be marked in kunas and DTS. The value marked must be the actual value or reflect the importance of the parcel’s content to the sender, while in international traffic it cannot exceed the actual value of the parcel, yet a fraction of the value can be marked.

The value marked in national traffic can be up to HRK 200,000.00, and a parcel with a marked value of up to HRK 500.00 is considered a plain parcel, while above this amount it is a registered value package. In the international traffic a parcel can be without a value marked.

Parcel in the national traffic can weigh up to 20 kg, while parcels in the international traffic must meet the requirements for each individual state in question.

National parcel sizes:
  • For a parcel transported by land the sum of its length, width and height should be 300 to 1400 mm or, if it is a cylindrical parcel, the sum of its length and double diameter cannot exceed 1400 mm nor be less than 170 mm, provided that one of these dimensions cannot be less than 100 mm.
  • The length of a parcel transported by air mail cannot exceed 500 mm, and every other side is max. 400 mm.
  • The address side of a parcel cannot be less than 90 x 140 mm.
International parcel size is prescribed for each individual state (Terms for receiving international parcels).

A national parcel is considered bulky if:
  • any of its dimensions exceeds 500 mm
  • any two dimensions individually exceed 300 mm
  • due to its special form it cannot be placed with other parcels.
A national parcel is considered standard if its content is packaged in a standard postal box or a box which corresponds in size to a standard box; otherwise a parcel is considered non-standard.
