ANNIVERSARIES OF CROATIAN CULTURE - IZIDOR KRSNJAVI
Izidor Kršnjavi was an initiator of artistic life, the first real art historian, painter, writer, translator, collector of national treasures, patron of the arts, the man who restored and built many buildings, a founder of important institutions, and a politician.
Working in the last quarter of the 19th century and the first quarter of the 20th century, he left an indelible imprint on the architecture in Croatia, not only by creating a series of important buildings in that period, but also as a teacher by founding vocational schools and promoting architectural education.
Stjepan Miletić, the first manager of the new theatre, proposed to the government that a gala curtain should be made and recommended the painter Vlaho Bukovac for the job, while the frescoes on the ceiling were made by the Vienna painter Alexander Goltz.
