More than 17,000 primary school pupils participated in the project
ZAGREB, October 1, 2020 - Croatian Post joined the celebration of the first World Postcard Day, declared by the organization Postcrossing. The main goal of this project is to bring the charm of postcards closer to new generations.
Last year marked the 150th anniversary of the first postcard. The Postcrossing community celebrated that day with great joy and enthusiasm all over the globe. Due to the great interest and positive reactions of the participants, The Postcrossing community decided to announce that the first day of October will be celebrated as the World Postcard Day.
Back in the time, postcards were brand new and innovative communication channel. Today, postcards are in a retro trend just like gramophone records, which are very much liked by new generations who were growing up attached to smartphones.
What does Postcard Day look like this year in our country? The Croatian Post invited all primary schools in Croatia to participate in the celebration of this anniversary, and as many as 500 of them responded to the invitation. The Post delivered 17.000 postcards to the students, and Marko Markica, Croatian philatelic mascot, prepared an educational video in which he tells the children about the history of postcards and postage stamps and explains how to properly address a postcard.
We are proud of the great response from the schools all over our country and glad that Croatia got involved in this great project, and in its unique way celebrated the World Postcard Day.
