The first definitive stamp “Airmail Zagreb - Dubrovnik” was issued on 9 September 1991 in the new independent state of Croatia during the armed Serbian aggression.
 The declaration of independence of the Republic of Croatia on 8 October 1991 was marked by the first commemorative issue on 10 December 1991.
